IPL Photofacial at New Horizons Wellness Center
Watch our IPL treatment in action at New Horizons Wellness Center in Shenandoah, TX. The Spectrum Laser by Rohrer Aesthetics delivers precise broad-spectrum light pulses to target pigmentation and vascular concerns without damaging the surrounding skin.
Benefits of IPL Treatment for Your Skin
In a single 20–30 minute IPL session, broad-spectrum light can address multiple skin concerns at once, targeting both pigmentation and vascular issues beneath the surface while keeping the skin cool and protected.
Sun Damage & Dark Spots
IPL is highly effective at fading sunspots, “liver” spots, and mottled pigmentation from years of UV exposure. It acts like an eraser for photoaging, helping reverse sun damage for a clearer, more even complexion.
Rosacea & Persistent Redness
IPL gently heats and collapses dilated blood vessels just under the skin, reducing diffuse redness and flushing. Most rosacea patients see noticeable improvement after 2 to 3 sessions, with maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months.
Freckles & Pigmented Lesions
Stubborn freckles or patches of pigment can be lightened significantly. IPL light targets melanin clusters, breaking them apart so they are naturally cleared by the body over the following weeks.
Uneven Tone & Texture
By stimulating collagen production, IPL treatments lead to smoother skin texture, smaller-looking pores, and a more balanced skin tone. Fine lines may also appear softer as new collagen forms over several weeks.
Acne & Post-Acne Marks
IPL’s light energy kills acne-causing bacteria and helps tame active acne. It also reduces post-acne brown spots and redness. For patients with inflammation-based acne scarring, a series of IPL sessions can produce meaningful improvement.
Minimal Downtime
IPL is non-invasive with no surgery and no anesthesia required. Most patients return to normal activities the same day, often described as a “lunchtime treatment.” A cooling gel keeps the skin comfortable throughout.
IPL for Pigmentation, Rosacea & Acne
The Spectrum Laser by Rohrer Aesthetics allows us to customize IPL settings for each condition. The same device, calibrated differently, produces optimized results for pigmentation, vascular concerns, and active acne.
IPL targets melanin clusters beneath the skin surface, breaking apart sunspots, age spots, and freckles. The body clears the targeted pigment cells naturally in the weeks following treatment.
- Sunspots & age spots
- Freckles & mottled pigmentation
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- UV-related photoaging
IPL gently heats dilated surface blood vessels, collapsing them so redness and flushing diminish. One of the most dramatic improvements seen with IPL, patients often describe it as life-changing for chronic rosacea.
- Rosacea flushing & redness
- Broken or dilated capillaries
- Diffuse facial redness
- Port wine stains (minor)
IPL light energy reduces acne-causing bacteria and calms inflammation, while simultaneously fading the brown and red marks that linger after breakouts. Can be paired with erbium laser resurfacing for deeper scarring.
- Active inflammatory acne
- Post-acne brown marks
- Post-acne redness
- Mild acne scarring (inflammation-based)
What to Expect During Your IPL Photofacial
Your IPL appointment at New Horizons is straightforward, comfortable, and takes just 20–30 minutes depending on the area being treated.
Preparation
Skin is cleansed and a cool gel is applied to the treatment area. Protective eye shields are placed, as IPL flashes are very bright. Settings are calibrated to your specific skin tone and concern.
Treatment
The handpiece is moved gently across the skin, delivering precise pulses. You may feel a mild warm snap, similar to a rubber band. The device’s cooling system keeps discomfort minimal throughout.
Immediately After
Mild redness or a warm sensation is normal for a few hours. Sunspots may temporarily appear darker before flaking off. Most patients return to daily activities the same day, no downtime required.
Results Timeline
Initial improvements appear in 7–10 days. More significant changes develop over 3–6 weeks as the skin regenerates. Optimal results achieved after 3–5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart.

Frequently Asked Questions About IPL Photofacial
How many IPL sessions will I need?
Most patients achieve their goals after 3 to 5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Concerns like rosacea or extensive sun damage may benefit from 4 to 6 sessions. We personalize the treatment plan during your free initial consultation based on your skin type and specific concerns.
How long do IPL results last?
Brown spots removed by IPL generally stay gone as long as you protect your skin from new sun exposure. Redness from broken capillaries can recur slowly over time, but most patients enjoy clearer skin for 6 to 12 months or longer. We recommend a maintenance IPL session about once a year to keep your complexion looking its best.
Does IPL work on all skin types?
IPL works best for light to medium skin tones. Patients with deep tans or very dark skin may not be safe candidates because the light can target the higher melanin in their skin and cause discoloration. We evaluate your skin type during consultation and recommend alternative treatments, such as radiofrequency or other laser options, if IPL is not the best fit.
Is IPL the same as a photofacial or BBL?
IPL, photofacial, and BBL (BroadBand Light) all refer to similar broad-spectrum light treatments for pigmentation, redness, and skin rejuvenation. Slight differences exist between specific device platforms. We use the Spectrum Laser by Rohrer Aesthetics, an FDA-cleared system that includes both IPL and laser handpieces in a single platform.
Can IPL be combined with other skin treatments?
Yes. Many of our patients combine IPL with HydraFacials for hydration and maintenance between sessions, or with microneedling for patients addressing both pigmentation and texture concerns. We will help you build a treatment timeline that spaces services appropriately for safe, effective results.
How should I prepare for my IPL session?
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks before your appointment. Discontinue retinoids and exfoliating acids for 3 to 5 days prior. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area. We will review all preparation guidelines in detail during your consultation. Contact us with any questions.
