How does it work?

  1. Your blood is drawn normally, just as it would be done in your PCP’s office.
  2. The blood is then purified in a centrifuge to extract the plasma.
  3. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the areas in need of treatment using microneedles for maximum patient comfort and precision, stimulating your natural regenerative process.

Since the PRP is full of growth proteins, skin cells begin to produce more collagen and elastin. We use needles that are finer in diameter than a human hair, for maximum patient comfort.

PRP can treat:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Poor skin texture
  • Acne scars and other areas with light scarring
  • Alopecia
  • Skin discoloration

Mild improvement will be noticeable within the first few weeks, with full correction occurring at the 4-6 month mark. Most patients will require several treatments to achieve their desired results.

How PRP Therapy Works

PRP therapy uses your body’s own healing factors to rejuvenate skin and stimulate tissue repair. The process begins with a simple blood draw, similar to a routine lab test. We then place the blood sample in a centrifuge, which spins at high speed to separate the components. This concentrates the platelets, cells rich in growth factors, into a small volume of plasma. The resulting platelet-rich plasma contains 3 to 5 times the normal concentration of growth factors found in your blood. We then apply or inject this concentrated PRP into the target area, where it triggers a natural healing and regeneration response. Because we use your own blood, there is virtually no risk of allergic reaction or rejection.

PRP for Skin Rejuvenation

One of our most popular applications of PRP is combining it with microneedling for enhanced skin rejuvenation. During this treatment, we perform microneedling to create thousands of micro-channels in the skin, then apply PRP directly to the treated area. The micro-channels allow the growth factors to penetrate deeper than topical application alone, amplifying the body’s collagen production response. Patients see improvement in skin texture, fine lines, tone, and overall radiance. We offer a microneedling with PRP package for $500, visit our microneedling page for details. This combination is particularly effective for patients who want to address early signs of aging, acne scarring, or dull, uneven skin texture.

PRP for Hair Restoration

PRP has shown promising results for patients experiencing early-stage hair thinning. When injected into the scalp, the concentrated growth factors stimulate dormant hair follicles and improve blood supply to the follicle base. This can slow hair loss and promote thicker, healthier growth in areas of thinning. PRP for hair restoration typically requires a series of treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions. During your consultation, we evaluate your hair loss pattern and discuss whether PRP is a suitable option for your situation. Results vary by individual, and we set realistic expectations from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions About PRP Therapy

Q: What is PRP therapy?

A: PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is a treatment that uses a concentrated portion of your own blood, rich in growth factors, to stimulate healing and tissue regeneration. We draw a small amount of blood, process it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and then apply or inject the PRP into the treatment area. It is a natural approach with no synthetic chemicals or foreign substances.

Q: Does PRP therapy hurt?

A: Most patients describe the discomfort as mild. For microneedling with PRP, we apply a topical numbing cream before treatment to minimize sensation. For PRP injections into the scalp or skin, the procedure involves brief pinching sensations at the injection sites. Overall, patients tolerate the treatment well and any discomfort resolves quickly after the session.

Q: How many PRP sessions will I need?

A: For skin rejuvenation with microneedling, we typically recommend 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments once or twice per year. For hair restoration, an initial series of 3 to 4 sessions is common, followed by periodic maintenance. We build a treatment plan based on your specific goals and the condition of the treatment area.

Q: What results can I expect from PRP?

A: Results develop gradually over several weeks as the growth factors stimulate collagen production and tissue repair. For skin rejuvenation, most patients notice improved texture, tone, and firmness within 4 to 6 weeks after treatment, with continued improvement over 2 to 3 months. For hair restoration, early results may appear within 2 to 3 months, with more noticeable improvement after 6 months. We photograph your progress so you can track the changes objectively.
