How Long Is a Sermorelin Cycle, and When Do You Start Seeing Benefits?

    July 13, 2026

Written by Emile Kettle, PA, a licensed provider at New Horizons Wellness Center & MediSpa, with medical oversight from Medical Director Dr. Jonathan Cheng, MD.

Most sermorelin cycles run about four to eight weeks, taken as a small injection five nights a week with weekends off. Many people notice the first shifts in sleep and energy inside the first one to three weeks. The changes you can actually measure, leaner body composition and better muscle tone, generally take about four weeks or longer and keep building over three to six months. How long you stay on it stays a clinical decision, made with the provider who's watching your labs and your progress.

What a Sermorelin "Cycle" Actually Means

A lot of the confusion online comes from one word doing two jobs. When people say "cycle," they sometimes mean the weekly injection rhythm, and sometimes they mean the length of the whole course. Those are different questions with different answers.

The weekly rhythm is the pattern you follow in a given week. At New Horizons Wellness Center & MediSpa, sermorelin injections are taken Monday through Friday nights, with weekends off. You go home with a kit of 20 pre-filled syringes that lives in your refrigerator, and you use a 31-gauge needle in the belly or a fatty part of the arm. The injection itself takes about a second.

The course length is the bigger question: how many weeks you keep doing that. Do the math on the kit and the two line up neatly. Twenty syringes at five nights a week is four weeks of therapy, which is where a lot of people start.

How Long You Stay on Sermorelin

How Long You Stay on Sermorelin

For most patients, a course runs about four to eight weeks. Some use it as a jump start toward a specific goal and stop there. Others stay on longer, or come back for another course later, depending on what they are trying to hold onto.

Your goal drives the length. Somebody coming off a GLP-1 weight-loss program who wants to protect the muscle they still have is running a different plan than somebody chasing better recovery from training. Both are reasonable. Neither is a fixed calendar you commit to on day one, and the dose gets adjusted along the way based on how you actually respond.

Do You Have to Cycle Off Sermorelin?

This is where you'll find real disagreement, and it's worth understanding rather than guessing at.

Sermorelin signals your pituitary gland to release your own growth hormone, and your body keeps its normal feedback controls in place while that happens. Growth hormone still comes out in short pulses, the way it does naturally. Sermorelin works through that system. The worry about "burning out" the pituitary traces back to synthetic growth hormone, which gets delivered straight into the body and can hold levels elevated in a flat, unnatural pattern for hours.

So a number of clinicians argue that scheduled breaks are unnecessary, and they have research behind them. Studies of continuous growth hormone releasing hormone exposure haven't shown the pituitary going quiet or losing its responsiveness. Other providers still build breaks in, and the five-nights-on, two-nights-off pattern stays common in practice.

Here's the honest version. The evidence doesn't support the fear that sermorelin will exhaust your pituitary, so treat the weekend break as a schedule choice. Whether you take breaks, and how long you run, is a judgment your prescribing provider should make with your labs and your goals in front of them.

When Sermorelin Benefits Start, Week by Week

Benefits tend to arrive in an order, and the ones you feel show up before the ones you can measure.

Weeks one to three. This is usually where the first changes land: sleep quality, energy through the day, and strength in your workouts. Sleep often moves first, which makes sense, because your body releases most of its growth hormone in pulses during deep sleep.

Around week four. Body composition starts to catch up. This is where patients more often report muscle tone and muscle building, better fat breakdown, improved skin texture and elasticity, and in some cases a lift in libido.

Three to six months. Fuller results generally develop over this longer window. Growth hormone works on a slow clock, and body composition follows it.

Worth saying plainly: this is a typical pattern, not a promise. Individual results vary, some people move faster than this and some slower, and a course that is not doing anything for you is a course worth re-examining with your provider instead of waiting it out.

How Much Sermorelin Do You Take?

There is no universal number, which is why the dose you read in a forum is close to useless for you.

At New Horizons Wellness Center & MediSpa, treatment typically starts low, around 10 to 15 units, and gets adjusted based on how you respond. Starting conservatively and moving from there is deliberate. Because sermorelin works through your body's own regulated feedback loop, a bigger dose does not simply buy you a proportionally bigger release, and chasing a larger number is not the lever people assume it is.

If you have seen 20 units quoted somewhere and wondered whether that is too much, the honest answer is that it depends entirely on you, on your labs, and on the provider monitoring you. That is a question for a consultation, not a chart on the internet.

How You Know It Is Actually Working

Sleep and energy are subjective, and after a few weeks it gets genuinely hard to tell whether you feel better or just expect to. This is where measurement earns its keep.

New Horizons Wellness Center & MediSpa runs its programs on numbers rather than impressions. Patients in the medically supervised weight-loss program get lab work and body composition analysis, and Emile Kettle, PA tracks body composition on a set schedule so you can see whether you are holding muscle or losing it.

"He also does In Body Scans every three months to make sure you aren't losing muscle."

    Kathryn Chapman

That scan is the difference between believing sermorelin is working and knowing whether it is. If you came to sermorelin to protect lean mass, that is the number that answers the question.

Sermorelin at New Horizons Wellness Center & MediSpa in Shenandoah, TX

Sermorelin is a prescription therapy, and it starts with a required in-person visit. Every patient sits down with Emile Kettle, PA, Center Director, who has four years of experience with sermorelin therapy and goes through your health history and goals before he prescribes anything. Dr. Jonathan Cheng, our Medical Director, reviews patient charts, so the therapy runs under physician oversight.

Where the medication comes from matters too. The sermorelin here is compounded by regulated pharmacies in Texas and Florida, and every batch goes through third-party quality testing for purity and potency.

"PA Kettle spent so much time walking me through the process and Dr. Cheng explained how the program is supervised medically."

    Carol D. Lewis

Patients come to the Shenandoah clinic from The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, and the greater Houston area. To find out whether sermorelin fits your goals and what a course would look like for you, call (281) 419-5544 or request an appointment.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why are sermorelin injections taken at night?

Your body releases most of its growth hormone in pulses during deep sleep. An evening injection is timed to work with that natural rhythm rather than against it.

What happens when you stop taking sermorelin?

Your growth hormone production settles back toward your own baseline, and the benefits fade gradually rather than disappearing overnight. Sermorelin supports your body's own production while you are on it, so stopping returns you to where your body naturally sits.

Can you stay on sermorelin long term?

Some patients do, under supervision. Long-term use is a clinical decision that should be made by the provider prescribing and monitoring you, with your labs in front of them.

Do you need a consultation before starting sermorelin?

Yes. At New Horizons Wellness Center & MediSpa, an in-person evaluation with Emile Kettle, PA is required before any sermorelin is prescribed, and no treatment is given without it.
